Inihayag ni Atty. Topacio sa isang panayam kamakailan sa kanya sa regional trial court o RTC sa Muntinlupa patungkol sa kanilang inihain na petisyon laban kina Leila De Lima, Edcel Lagman, Risa Hontiveros at Renato Reyes.
Ito'y dahil sa paglabag umano ng mga ito sa sub judice rule na paghihigpit sa mga komento at pagsisiwalat na na-uukol sa patuloy na judicial preceedings hinggil sa kasong illegal drug trading ni Leila De Lima.
Ayon pa kay Atty. Topacio, ang mga kasamahan ni Leila De Lima ay iniimpluwensyahan ang kaso sa pamamagitan ng publicity.
Tila binubully rin umano ng mga ito ang judiciary. Nagpapaawa pa umano ang mga ito sa publiko upang makakuha ng simpatya mula sa maraming Pilipino.
Agad naman itong sinagot ng isang kilalang supporter ni Leila De Lima na si Christina Palabay.
"I just read the news about the case of indirect contempt filed today by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio against Sen. Leila de Lima and her legal counsels, Rep. Edcel Lagman, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Bayan’s Renato Reyes and me.
"Amid this harassment suit, I reiterate Karapatan’s support for the call for Sen. de Lima’s immediate release. We will always remain steadfast in calling for her release and for all political prisoners unjustly imprisoned.
"Atty. Topacio himself should know that there are far more important issues for the country's seriously backlogged courts to address. Dumping such frivolous cases on the courts is a waste of precious time and resources, and is, by itself, indicative of Atty. Topacio's contemptuous regard for the country's justice system."
Samantala, nagreact naman ang isang kilalang lawyer na si Atty. Trixie Cruz Angeles. Kung saan nilinaw nito kung ano ang pinanghuhugutan ni Atty. Topacio tungkol sa sub judice rule at kung ano ang dahilan kung bakit denied ang petition nito para makapagpyansa at makalaya ng pansamantala.
